Cultural Values of Landscapes in the Practical Work of Biosphere Reserves

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role landscape’s cultural values in practical work biosphere reserves and identify what opportunities there are increase awareness knowledge about these values. draws upon data collected a Swedish reserve, including survey residents, interviews with public officials involved heritage management, an analysis documents produced by Biosphere Reserve Association. Residents showed broad values, they linked immaterial material objects. residents’ strong identity pride relation landscape were confirmed officials, who argued that it deep layers history diversity make reserve attractive. However, concepts related barely touched analysed; presented as background—as abstract value. findings reveal several unexplored implications Suggested actions include definition goals, articulation use concepts, inventories actors, increased collaboration, knowledge. Cultural landscapes often neglected reserves, despite social dimensions sustainable development being important component UNESCO’s Man (MAB) Programme. This research indicates ways bridging gap between theory practice.
